The Sacramento Bee published an article showing the results of the voluntarily step up loan modification agreed by the lenders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The lenders rewrote terms of 136,785 troubled California mortgages in 2008 but they were unwilling to reduce the amount that borrowers owe which is crucial to keep people in their homes.
